Strictness is vital

If we were walking along the edge of a cliff during a typhoon, we would take each step with full alertness and great care.
But, even if asked to, we would find it impossible walk in the same way on a fine day.
Airplanes can lift themselves into the sky at takeoff only because they run into strong air resistance.
When we work, we want to be as comfortable as possible. However, by working in such a way, we can never achieve great results because we tend to become inattentive and not exert ourselves to our maximum capacity. Working in a situation where mistakes are easily forgiven will never produce as good results as working in a strict environment, for example where there is the fear of a deal failing or a company going bankrupt hanging over us.
Similarly, the performance of employees who won't or don't need to take responsibility for making mistakes will never be the same as that of workers who must face up to their mistakes. People do not progress or improve easily in settings where the consequences of their mistakes are not felt by themselves and others. This is because such workers do not have to apply themselves to the fullest.
So, it's ultimately in their best interests if you make your employees stand on the edge of a cliff so that they feel fear, even if you might feel sorry for them.
Work places need an established system of responsibility with a logical organization of work processes which forces people to work independently and make maximum use of their individual abilities. Otherwise, it will not be possible to make the best use of their power.
We should always bear in mind that harsh environments and adversities are vital for making us tough and strong.

People tend to look for the easy way.
But ease and comfort often lead to failure and ruin.
If no one imposes discipline on us, we can never be successful in life. Such is human nature.
