The Ideal Boss

An ideal boss is a one who is admired and respected by others.
The admiration causes a boss's staff to feel excitement, and the respect makes them want to be like him.
Some bosses make us feel good simply when they sit beside us. Some bosses highly motivate us and encourage us to work willingly just by their presence.
We feel a great peace of mind when we are close to a person who understands us better than anybody else. Moreover, if the person values us, we are inclined to want to do things helpful to him.
However, if too much hope is placed on us, it burdens and pressures us, giving rise to depression. We are more encouraged to work harder when the person appreciates us but still thinks that we have some undiscovered abilities. This is because we want to reveal these unknown abilities and to be valued more greatly by that person.
It is important for the boss to make his staff feel a sense of fulfillment so that they find their work rewarding even if they are very busy. A boss cannot be categorized as ideal until his staff feel complete sincerity and loyalty toward him and become spontaneously attentive to him.
The worth of a boss can be judged by the feelings his staff will have toward him after working under him. If the staff avail themselves of the boss's kindness, he is not fit for the position.
One of a boss's most important jobs is to train and change his staff from people who simply follows instructions to people who work at their own initiative and ultimately become people who makes suggestions actively knowing what the boss really wants.
A boss is ranked as "successful," when he manages to help his staff to improve themselves as human beings by behaving severely or kindly, sometimes terribly and sometimes warmly, depending on the occasion.

As an old saying says, "A man of too much integrity is shunned by others." If a boss is too strict and perfect, his staff will feel suffocated. Broad-mindedness and generosity may sometimes be required of a boss to let his staff feel that they are allowed to take a deep breath in front of him.
