Six kinds of effort

What kind of effort are you making now?
I think that human beings make six different kinds of effort.

(1) The effort of struggle
When we are making an effort during a struggle with rival co-workers or in anticipation of a battle with enemies, our effort will be total.

(2) The effort against fear
When we have no way of escape, being forced into a tight corner due to a fire, debt or some other problem, we make an effort at the risk of our lives.

(3) The effort of hope
Some people risk their lives for their dreams or hopes. Of all human wishes the wish for self-realization is the strongest, and therefore people make an effort in order to feel their life is worthwhile.

(4) The effort of sincerity
Forgetting self-interest, and offering self-sacrifice, people make this effort, an effort of sincerity, which springs out of his or her consciousness. This can also be an effort desperately made to serve others because they are precious to us.

(5) The effort of gratitude
The more sincerity human beings have, the more deeply are they impressed by others' sincerity. In those with hearts filled with gratitude, there is a joy welling up from within. Having a cheerful and invigorated heart, they can make all-out efforts with all their might and with a refreshed feeling.

(6) The effort to improve oneself
Self-improvement means to cultivate oneself. People who have become good adults are those who have improved their skills and polished their hearts.

Although the effort to keep training entails great hardships, I think that people can feel happiness only after they go through those hardships.
Happiness may not come to the person who leads an easy life.

As an old saying goes, an uncut gem does not sparkle.
